Geeta Sankappanavar

Co-Founder, Majority Owner and Board Chair

Geeta is a serial entrepreneur, investor and community leader.  She is the founder and CEO of Akira Impact, an essential assets investment firm that invests to support UN Sustainable Development Goals 5, 6, 7 and 12.  She is a founder of R Labs, a social impact fintech, as well as Green Impact Partners and Pipestone Energy (both recently publicly listed), and a co-founder of Northbase Finance.  Prior to Akira, she was co-founder and President of Grafton Asset Management, a ~$1B energy investment firm based in Calgary, Canada. 

​

Prior to co-founding Grafton Asset Management, she lived in the United States for 30 years where she graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and began her career as a consultant with McKinsey and Company in the New York Office.  She went on to work for New Jersey based New Vernon Capital, a $3B blue-chip asset management firm focused on India and the Emerging Markets.

Geeta is recognized as an international thought leader, an unrelenting advocate for women’s equality and a committed philanthropist.  She has been honoured as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women and Alberta's 50 Most Influential People.

Geeta serves as the Chair of the Board of Governors for the University of Calgary, as a Board member for UNICEF Canada, to help the world's most vulnerable, AXISConnects a non-profit organization focused on advancing women's rights in Calgary, the Palix Foundation supporting the Alberta Family Wellness initiative in the areas of early childhood development, addiction and mental health, and also serves as a member of the Calgary Foundation Investment Committee.

Geeta is a wife, mom to four fur babies, speaks German and Portuguese and is the first on every dance floor.

David Pfeiffer

Co-Founder, President, CEO & Board Director

David is a builder, leader, advisor and engineer, focused on sustainable development and the transition to renewable energy.  During his 25-year career in the energy industry, David has overseen the development and successful execution of some of the world’s most challenging infrastructure projects.  David has learned to prioritize people and relationships, to empathise and collaborate, to ensure benefits are equally shared and concerns are not only heard but acted upon, prioritizing shared values.

​

In addition to his role leading Bluewater, David is the President and CEO of the Bluewater Renewable Energy Storage Project.  Prior to joining Bluewater, David led TC Energy’s $11 billion Coastal GasLink project as President, accountable for all aspects of the project.  David also served TC Energy as Vice-President Mexico Projects where he led $6 billion in projects, and as Director on the Board of Bruce Power, the largest operating nuclear power plant in the world.

David has a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Alberta, a Masters of Engineering Degree in Project Management from the University of Calgary, and a Masters of Business Administration Degree from Columbia University and the London Business School.

David is a passionate father of three and husband, with a deep-seated love for adventure.  From a small farming community on the Canadian prairies, David has traveled the world, living in Bolivia, Ecuador, Nigeria and Mexico. Today he is most often found coaching his kids on the soccer field or at the ice rink.

Eva is a fur mom to a shiba inu and a wife, with a passion for sports. Eva spends as much time as possible playing tennis, trail running in the mountains or surfing and enjoying water sports. 

Eva Kiefer

Chief Financial Officer, Secretary and Board Director

Eva Kiefer is an experienced financial executive and board member with background in audit, tax, enterprise risk management, corporate finance, strategic planning and execution. She is a strong builder of compliance-focused organizations.

Eva is the co-founder and CFO of Akira Impact, an essential assets investment firm that invests to support UN Sustainable Development Goals 5,6,7 and 12, leading various transactions including the creation of a renewable natural gas developer with a pipeline of large scale projects in United States and Canada. Eva has served in variety of executive and board roles, including CFO, Corporate Secretary and Investment Committee member at Northbase Finance, a Calgary-based specialty finance company financing the energy transition. In addition, Eva has helped build public companies, including Green Impact Partners Inc., a clean energy company, and Pipestone Energy Corp, a Calgary-based oil and gas exploration and production company, where she served as CFO & Corporate Secretary. Eva has also served as the CFO and Corporate Secretary of Canadian Non-Operated Resources LP, a ~$700M energy focused investment company and CFO & CCO of Grafton Asset Management, a Calgary-based ~$1B energy investment firm. 

 

Eva started her career at Ernst & Young LLP in the assurance group serving clients ranging from large public to small private companies. Eva holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (with Distinction) from the University of Calgary. Eva is a CPA, CA and has completed the PDO accreditation. Eva is passionate about financial literacy, support of marginalized communities, and sustainability. Eva serves as an External Member for the University of Calgary and is part of the Audit Committee. She is also on the Board of Directors for Akira Impact, Daytona Power Corp. and Northbase Finance Inc. and has been a member of the Proxy Committee with the Diversity Council of Canada.
 

Paul Anderson

Vice President Sustainability

Paul is a strategic advisor and project development expert with 30 years’ experience specializing in environmental management, land acquisition, regulatory and stakeholder relations.  Paul received a Bachelor of Science Honours Biology degree from the University of Waterloo in 1987 and a Master of Science in Aquatic Ecosystems in 1992. Paul also holds a Business Leadership Development Certificate from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.

In addition to his role with Bluewater, Paul is the Vice President of Sustainability for the Bluewater Renewable Energy Storage Project.

​

Paul provides leadership and strategic guidance in regulatory approvals and the development of environmental assessment and management programs for major projects. He has extensive experience in complex energy projects and in helping project proponents advance toward social license.  Paul has a unique skill set with extensive experience in environmental and land management as well as regulatory affairs, stakeholder & public consultation and Indigenous engagement.  

​

In 1997 Paul led the environmental assessment and management program for the Alliance Pipeline Project, going on to lead Regulatory, Environment, Land and Stakeholder Relations during construction and operations in both Canada and the United States.

In 2007, Paul also acquired a land acquisition company that he later sold to the RPS group in 2013.  Following the sale Paul assumed the role of President for RPS Energy Canada, a position which he held until 2018.

From 2018 to 2021 Paul has worked on a wide variety of major projects including infrastructure, high-speed rail, pipelines, and power generation projects, with many currently in various stages of project development, regulatory approval or operations.

Paul is a father and husband with a passion for cycling and travel.  He regularly combines the two, competing in arduous cycling races around the world.

Peter Ewing

Vice President Finance

Until December 2021, Peter was Managing Director, Corporate Development for TC Energy Corporation. Over more than three decades, Peter held a variety of roles within the TC Energy family ranging from market and strategic analysis to marketing and sales functions with the company’s marketing affiliate. More recently Peter held leadership positions within Corporate Development and was responsible for the execution of significant corporate transactions including acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures. Recent transactions included the acquisition of the outstanding public equity of TC PipeLines LP, the sale of majority interests in Coastal GasLink Pipeline and Northern Courier Pipeline to financial investors as well the 2016 acquisition of the Columbia Pipeline Group.

Peter holds a B.A. (Honours) and a Master of Arts in economics, both from Queen’s University in Kingston.
